Schandalige opmerking van Rangers-supporter richting Scott Brown
All fanatic supporters know what it’s like to experience your club’s derby. Real rivalry, pure passion and also genuine hatred. A struggle that is always on the edge and sometimes goes just a little over that. But there is always a question of human decency and some form of respect. If Vitesse supporters want to support the cancer-suffering Theo Bos during the derby in the fourth minute, the uitvak also participates. Some things just go beyond football. You cannot cross some boundaries. Unfortunately, that’s what a Rangers supporter decided to do after the Old Firm ended . In a video that has appeared on Twitter, the concerned supporter can be heard making a degrading comment towards Celtic captain Scott Brown.
The video takes place after the game between Rangers and Celtic. Celtic leave Ibrox Park with three points. There is no worse feeling for the home supporters. That anger hasn’t subsided for a long time even after the game. When the players of the away team leave the stadium, some supporters are waiting for them at the exit. This is all quite understandable. The adversary is the enemy today. You still want to shout it out. However, when Scott Brown leaves the stadium, one Rangers supporter decides to go completely beyond the limits of human decency.
Brown’s Pain
It’s just a single sentence that you can ask anyone. To Brown, he hurts more than any insult. “How’s your sister?” , it sounds like from the group of supporters. Fiona Brown, Scott’s sister, died in 2008 at the age of 21 from cancer. It is a disgusting comment that would not even enter the mind of almost all people.
De reactie van Brown zelf zegt alles. Aan zijn houding en blik zie je zijn hart breken op het moment dat hij doorkrijgt wat hem nu precies gevraagd wordt. Er is geeneens woede te zien, alleen ongekend veel verdriet en teleurstelling. Een reactie die zegt: “Hoe kun je in godsnaam zoiets zeggen. Hoe kun je in godsnaam als mens zo zijn”. Het filmpje is gewoon pijnlijk om te zien. De pijn van Brown is door het scherm heen te voelen en snijdt door de ziel heen.
Ook de andere supporters beseffen onmiddellijk dat dit veel te ver gaat en spreken hun mede-supporter er op aan. Ook de politie grijpt direct in. Dan eindigt de video helaas. Ondertussen is de desbetreffende supporter van Rangers geïdentificeerd. Hij heeft van de club een life-time ban ontvangen. Het is de enige gepaste reactie voor deze schandalige actie. Iedereen snapt rivaliteit. Iedereen snapt het gevoel wat een derby oproept bij supporters. Maar soms is voetbal inderdaad niet het belangrijkste. Soms moeten menselijk fatsoen en respect een stapje hoger staan. Dit is zo’n geval.
